Next Asian Dragon Concept

IMG_0439

With the black dragon complete onto the next one right? 😉 This is the concept for the rainbow dragon. It will be extremely colorful! I probably won’t have to much of a background on this one as the dragon itself will have the most color. There are a few tweaks here and there that I will do to this sketch but it will be relatively close to this concept.

The 4th dragon, “The Gift of Power”

Screen Shot 2017-02-20 at 10.37.30 AM

“The Gift of Power” is now complete. The black dragon can symbolize many different things but I chose power to be the main representation. I tried to capture the essence of this dragon and it turned out great!

This show supports the zoo and has many beautiful pieces of wildlife artworks. I invite you to attend, it runs from January 28 – March 12, 2017. Thank you for your support!

Here is a photo of my in progress pastel. This composition has a lot of elements with water, forest, rocks, and the tiger itself of course. The layering of the forest and tiger are what i’m currently working on. I getting the stripes marked in so I can start building them up. It is starting to look like a tiger though 🙂

Reflecting on the past

With it being the New Year it has been a time of reflection. So here we see the improvement of time. The black and white piece is an earlier work done quite a number of years ago. I was experimenting with texture then on the fur using a dry brush technique. One of my earliest ink paintings it is interesting to see the difference in control. The other is a card I did a few years ago. You can see the change of technique for the fur and how it has developed. Both Bengal ink paintings are well done. It is fun to see how a style can develop over time though. You can buy the head shot as a card on my website.

The Chimera

img_0387

This is “Half Awake” an India ink painting of the Chimera. The chimera is know as a hybrid species. I went for a more classical approach with the lion, goat, and snake. It took a number of washes to get the different textures. It did get a mystical feel, especially in different lighting with the different sheens that show.
